BSE UK’s Story

Building Smarter Spaces for 50 Over Years

1971

Where it all started

BSE UK began back in December 1971 as Frenchay Construction Services Ltd, founded by John Gainey in Bristol. In those early days, it was all about storage equipment and helping local warehouses keep things in order – simple, but essential.

1990–2000

Finding our feet

As the years went on, we grew steadily and built a solid reputation across the South West and South Wales. From pallet racking to mezzanine floors and partitioning, we became a trusted name for businesses looking to make better use of their space. In 2001, the business changed hands to Bob and Anne Hanley, with Dennis joining the team along the way.

Mid-2000

Keeping it in the family

In 2006, Dennis and Janet Ives took over the business and brought it into the Ives family. This was a big moment for us – and the start of a more ambitious chapter. By 2013, we’d also joined the SEMA Distribution Group, strengthening our place in the industry.

2016

The next generation steps in


George Ives joined as a director, bringing fresh energy, new ideas, and probably a few challenges to “how things have always been done” – all in a good way.

2018

A fresh look

We rebranded as BSE UK to better reflect who we’d become – a business working across the whole country. We also launched a new website, making it easier for customers to see what we do (and how we can help).

2021–2022

Growing our partnerships

We teamed up with AR Racking, which meant a wider product range, better availability, and even more ways to support our customers. Always a win.

2023

A new chapter in leadership

George stepped into the role of Managing Director, with Dennis moving into Chairman. A natural handover – keeping the family feel, while continuing to move the business forward.

2024

More space to grow

We moved into a new, larger headquarters in Chepstow – giving us the room we needed to keep expanding. That same year, we achieved SEMA Approved Member – Advanced status, recognising the high standards we’re proud to work to every day.

Today

Looking ahead

We launched our mission: creating smarter spaces for growing UK businesses. We also expanded into commercial and office fit-outs, reached record turnover, and continued growing our team – because the journey’s far from over.

At the heart of BSE UK is a team that genuinely cares about getting things right. Many of us have been in the industry for years, and that experience shows in the way we approach every project – practical, honest, and focused on what works best for you.

At the same time, we’ve got a newer generation coming through, bringing fresh ideas, new ways of working, and a different perspective. It’s that balance – experience and new thinking – that keeps us improving and moving forward.
